On the corner of Whitaker and Broughton Streets in downtown Savannah's newly revived retail corridor, The Paris Market & Brocante, a 5,000 square foot lifestyle boutique and designer resource, is the southeast's newest luxury home shopping destination. Antique crystal pendant chandeliers dress the windows and just beyond, salvaged European architectural artifacts, luxe Parisian textiles and a charming French-inspired patisserie create an inviting environment that piques the curiosity of all who pass by. This irresistible invitation to shop the world's most exclusive markets and iconic brands is the brainchild of owner Paula Danyluk, whose love of travel and discovery informs every corner of the two-story, flagship store. The Paris Market & Brocante, originally a jewel-box size boutique a dozen blocks away, opened two years ago, a showcase for Paula's ability to tease out beauty in unexpected objects and her eclectic style, which attracted the attention of national design editors in its first two months. This ultra-feminine retreat's only drawback, however, was its intimate scale. "I just didn't have enough space to display furniture and larger architectural elements," she says. A seasoned haggler at the 'Marche aux Puces' or flea markets in France and Belgium, Paula's shopping excursions later extended to the famous El Attarine outdoor market in Alexandria and Cairo's exotic Khan-e-Kalili bazaar. The new location which opened in May 2005 reflects and embodies this more eclectic found style with offerings both grand and humble. The Paris Market & Brocante also hosts a designer's resource center in the lower level. The West Broughton Street location, with its exposed Savannah brick walls and original pine flooring and plaster walls, is the perfect backdrop for these antique treasures and unique contemporary finds from around the world. The trove of beautiful 'objets trouves' from afar mixed with select international brands like Fauchon and their own signature bedding line, put you back in touch with simple, luxurious pleasures in life, synonymous with French chic.
