The beautiful Ottoman spy laughed when she saw the small crystal bottle that had been created for her. It featured an embellished elephant, an allusion to the verse of Valmiki’s Ramayana, because they believed her to be an Indian princess. Lubin

Pierre-François Lubin is known today as the founder of modern perfumery, but first he was a simple apprentice tasked with delivering parcels to Queen Marie-Antoinette, and collecting the beauty secrets of the Royal Court along the way. In spite of political turmoil and revolution, Lubin’s intimate knowledge of fragrance allowed him to open his parfumerie in 1798, and attract the next generation of French royalty to be anointed by his work.
