A love story preserved in glass and gold, the globe de mariée is a ritual established during the reign of Napoleon III, meant to house the most important mementos of a couple’s wedding day. Purchased in the brocantes of Provence, France.

Upon a cushion of red velvet, the bridal crown of woven orange flowers (dried or preserved in wax) would rest alongside brass-stamped symbols important to the bride and groom, as well as a number of mirrors to reflect the truth of their souls, and the number of children they hoped to have. I

t’s rare to find one with the original glass dome intact, but this was perfectly preserved. These were equal parts art pieces and treasure troves of memory, meant to be honored for not only the couple’s lifetime, but their future generations’ as well.
