Fallen Aristocrat | Saints & Ritual

The Paris Market presents...

SAINTS & RITUAL

Religious iconography has been an art form since the first man sparked the first fire, and breathed a god's name into the flame. Divinity is present in architecture—the intricate honeycomb patterns of India or sweeping dome of Hagia Sophia, the towering gothic spires littered along cathedrals in France.

Inside those cathedrals, something holy is glimpsed in soft-faced figures draped with blue cloth or crimson or gold, haloed and hallowed by the people who kneel at their feet.

Saints and rituals are timeless concepts, glimpsed in antique books of prayer, paperolle reliquaries fashioned by nuns, and coins stamped with the beloved Madonna to hold during times of need. It was these vintage pieces that we cast for Fallen Aristocrat, allowing sacred hearts and blessed figures to dangle from our throats.

But whether a nod to history or a significant daily ritual of your own, we invite you to consider these pieces plucked from art, inspired by divinity but crafted by human hands.

SANTA ROSA CANDLES

Gifted with a distinct, warm hue achieved by melting actual amber into the wax, each candle is then finished off with a golden stamp to denote the patron saint of the candle workshop—Santa Rosa.

Unscented, smokeless, dripless, these stately beauties once used to light churches and cathedrals can now be brought into the most sacred space: your home.

ROMAN CROSS PENDANT

While antiquing in France, we discovered a small collection of vintage religious emblems which we reimagined into a series of charms. This double-sided Roman cross makes a statement alone, but its intricate details can accompany any other number of charms

SAINT PRAYER COINS

One side depicts the blessed virgin Mary while the other holds a fervent heart, cast into a delicate charm. This was once used for ritual in the Catholic tradition, understood by the phrasing “Our lady of peace, pray for us” and “Peace of the lord be with you always.”

MIXTA PERSONA STUD EARRINGS

These vintage hand-painted intaglios depict a golden saint in front of a blue sky, surrounded by a shimmering gallery of stars. The name of the earrings, Mixta Persona, stems from a traditional Russian coronation.
