About this Piece
'Italian Woman with a Scarf' is a representation of the artist's Italian-American heritage. His grandmother, Violet, is imagined as a hope-filled young woman during her years in Philadelphia. The model for the painting, Juliana, is also of Italian heritage and wears a gold silk scarf around her neck. Painted entirely from life in Savannah, Georgia.'
Dimensions: Oil on Canvas 13 x 16 inches
Seth Fite was born in Bolton, England, but spent the majority of his childhood in the midwest learning to sketch alongside his sister under the heavy influence of the American illustrators of the Golden Age. After a time, Fite’s grandfather would urge him to look to the Wyeths for inspiration, which then led to his exploration of classical painting under Beth Schott, guided by the techniques of Rembrant, Velazquez, and master Frank Duveneck.
